Family Math Night

Tonight, J.G. Workman P.S. is holding a Family Math Night.  Classrooms will be open with various math themed activities and games to do and play with your children.  Miss McGregor, Mr Pate and I will be together in room 10 with activities that your children have experienced in their math lessons.  It begins at 5:30 and ends at 7pm.  You can come and go as you please and are encouraged to visit any classes you like, not just your child's classroom.

Skating Day

Tomorrow is the schools last skating day of the year.  Feel free to bring your child down to skate with the school.  Of course, you will have to skate with them.  It is a wonderful experience for all the children and adults in the school (except kindergarten).  The school leaves right after lunch to walk down to Birchmount Arena for the afternoon and walks back in time for dismissal.  If you plan to bring your child, just let Mrs. McLaughlin, Mr. pate or myself know so we don't call you for a safe arrival check.

a little about our day

Today, in math, we are ending our unit in location and movement by reading and acting out Robert Munch's Up, Up, Down.  Our next unit will be a measurement unit starting with length.  Keep an eye on your child's backpack for fun ways you can support this unit at home.

Character Matters

This month, the Great Golden Bear award for room 10 will go to the student or students that are chosen by their peers to be the most honest.  We have been reading about and talking about honesty every day.  At home this month, focus on the importance of honesty.

our writing lesson today

Today, we are going to read a book called Fancy Nancy.  In this story, Nancy uses many forms of writing.  After the story, we are going to talk about all the ways Nancy used writing and the children will be encouraged to use some of these in their play.  When your child gets home from school today, ask them what kinds of writing they tried today.

a bit about tomorrow

Tomorrow, in our reading lesson, we are going to talk about how to use a book like Castle by David McCauley to guide their play.  Some of you may remember the castle building craze that hit our class at the beginning of the year.  This discussion will encourage the children to get ideas from books.  We will also be talking about the story Cinderella and talk about ways we can use that story in our play.  Things like acting it out or retelling it with the felt board.

Have a wonderful evening,

Miss Mynes

a bit about tomorrow

Tomorrow, we are going to read Whistle for Willie and talk about ways the children can use the book in their play.  Yesterday, we read Madlenka and during center time, one child pretended to be Madlenka while some other children pretended to be the people she visited to tell them about her wiggly tooth.  They had lots of fun.
